We Detect and Seal Water Leaks
As mentioned above, there are many different kinds of leaks that can afflict a home’s plumbing system. The type you’re most likely to run into depends largely on the type of material your pipes are made of. Older homes largely use iron pipes, which are very susceptible to rust. This can open large holes in the pipes, and even cause them to rupture. This can cause quite a bit of water damage in a very short amount of time. Fortunately, it’s also relatively easy to find and fix.
For the past 50 years or so, however, the pipe material of choice has been copper. Copper pipes are quite resistant to rust, which makes it much less likely that you’ll see anything as dramatic as a rupture. However, they are still susceptible to pitted corrosion. Pitted corrosion opens up tiny holes in the pipe, known as "pinhole leaks," which often go undetected until they rot out the entire area with water damage. This is why it is so important to have your plumbing professionally inspected at least once a year. Proactive water leak detection and repair is the best way to find and seal pinhole leaks before they have a chance to wreak havoc.
We’ll Find and Treat Slab Leaks for You
If pinhole leaks seem bad, slab leaks can be a whole lot worse. These are leaks that occur in the pipes installed in the concrete slab under your home. They are difficult to detect, reach, and repair. Fortunately, we know exactly how to take care of them. Slab leaks overwhelmingly occur in the hot water line, rather than the cold water line. That’s why one of the easiest ways to detect a slab leak is to pay attention to the hot water heater. If the water heater is running constantly, it means that it is losing hot water and has to keep heating more. If you aren’t using any hot water, but the water heater won’t stop running, then you’ve almost certainly got a slab leak.
Next comes isolating the exact location of the slab leak. The best thing to do for this is to shut off all water appliances in the house. After that’s done, we use specialized listening equipment to listen for the sound of flowing water under your floor. Once the leak is found, we just need to get through the slab to the pipe and repair it.
